LR AERATION COMPASS

The tilt-turn for casement openings.

The traditional solutions are based on restricting opening friction stays with a manual mechanical unblocker and this is done by commonly accessing the sash hardware once the window is open. This solution poses the problem of when unblocked the restrictor then depends on the window user being responsible who has to correctly block the friction stay. This last point is particularly important with casement windows as an incorrect blocking of the friction stay could result in the sash falling unexpectedly on to the user whilst being opened. Therefore security remains at a very low level given that they come apart easily. With reference to comfort, the hardware is normally noisy and when the sash is left open, it is subjected to the wind.

By taking all of this in to account, we have set ourselves the objective of designing a new friction stay restrictor with the following characteristics:

1- Tilt-Turn for casements.

An easy step for restricting openings.

We have designed a friction stay that will combine with any of the Stac one directional key locking handles which then allows:

– For the window to be completely blocked.

-For a limited opening. This function is achieved by turning the key to 90°. In this lock position it can be moved from being locked to a limited opening by turning the handle but it is not possible to completely open the sash because the cremone will not turn more than 90°.

All of the Stac cremones have the diode function, meaning that it is always possible to go back to the security position in this case with the sash being closed if the key is not available. In order to change to lesser security positions the key will always be needed.

If the key is turned a further 90°, (180° from the closed position) so that the window can be completely opened, the limiting friction stay will be unblocked. This position is important in order to clean the external glass or allow for entry of an authorised person through balcony windows.

Note: The Sirius Block key locking cremone is also incorporated with a Stac exclusive RSP function (Return to Security Position). This is the only cremone on the market where it is not necessary to have a key to block the total window opening position. All that is needed is to press the lock button and we pass from total opening position 3 to limited opening position 2.

2- Totally simple and reliable to use.

The actual users of the windows are not fenestration professionals and neither do they have to be.

All of the movements made with the cremone do not have to be manipulated and neither do any internal parts of the  window need to be accessed.

When going to the total unblocked position of the window, simply by closing the window and moving the cremone, the friction stay mechanism returns to engage itself and stop any opening. Simple and quick. With any public use window that has this mechanism incorporated, we recommend using the return angle with the anti-mishandling operation. With this component it is necessary to always close the sash on to the frame in order to change the cremone position and therefore avoiding any incorrect hardware operation and resulting in total reliability.

3- Ventilation retention position.

A window in a ventilation position should not close by itself caused by a small air current. When a tilt-turn window is in the tilt position, its own sash weight maintains the sash in the ventilation position. For casement windows, the weight rests on the hinges resulting in that any air current can move or strike the sash strongly. Stac has incorporated a blocking mechanism at the final sash retaining position that provides stability for this ventilation position and we have also incorporated a technical plastic bushing which absorbs the noises and vibrations of possible wind action in the window. With this, our engineers have kept in mind the comfort of the window user.

4- Resistant and secure.

Because the hardware for public use has to be designed to resist the passage of time and extreme conditions of use the best materials have been selected for the design of this product. The friction stay arms are made from 304 STAINLESS steel, the rivets from high resistance steel, the plastic parts are made from acetal resin and the frame guide element is made with extruded aluminium. The frame guide body design includes holes for two self tapping screws for fixing to the profile which is obligatory in the case of casement windows and always for public use whether or not it is casement or hinged.

5- Easy assembly.

Why is Ikea furniture so complicated to assemble? All of the hardware elements are supplied pre-assembled and ready to be applied directly on to the window. The frame guide body has grub screws in order to pre-position the frame part directly on to the profile and is easily adjusted. This is the same with the ventilation opening. The sash element has a grooved entry and is assembled directly on to any Stac sash hardware part.

6 – Multiple assembly possibilities.

Our clients always surprise us.Included in the technical data sheets for casement and hinged openings are the most commonly used assembly configurations with one or multiple friction stay restrictors, with cremone or with a window handle etc.The sash element of the friction stay is compatible with all of the Euro Groove sash hardware elements from Stac as we are sure that new solutions will appear. Given that all of the Evo SOFT & Evo Securityhardware elements provide many solutions and that each installer can adjust its level of security in the closed position of the window as well as the smoothness of operation in large dimensioned windows

7 – Tilt alternative for polyagonal and arched windows.

In order to prevent losing the least possible features. In the cases where tilt-turn hardware for polyagonal windows goes over budget, this solution is the best alternative.
